The following includes a bried descirption of internet safety websites for parents and for teachers. I have rated each site with a number between 1 and 5: 1 being the best/well developed and 5 being worst/poor


Websites for Parents:

1. kidshealth.org
This is a website for parents that offers information on how to keep your children safe on the internet. There is an article that includes tips for parents. There is a section that lists the laws specific to internet safety, it talks about different tools that parents can use for online protection such as filters, it encourages parents to be involved with their childs internet use, such as sharing the same email account, or bookmarking your childs favorite sites so they can access them more readily. This site offers great tips but does not have a lot of resources for parents to use. I would give this site a 4.
2. Parent Guide to Internet Safety
This website is offered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. It is a guide created for parents to keep their children safe while using the internet. It listes signs to look for if your children might be at risk online. It also has talking points if you discover that your child is using the internet in an inappropriate way. The site also answers the most common questions parents might have reguarding the internet and their children. The site gives a number that parents can call for more information. I would give this site a 3.

3. Parents and Guardians
This is a really informative that parents can use for a varitey of different subjects such as: cyberbullying, cell phones, gaming, blogs, predators, social networking, and etc. The site offers tips that deal with each of the subjects and then has discussion starters that parents can use to help educate their children on internet safety. Each subject also has interesting statistics that apply, they may be helpful for parents. I would give this website a 5.

4. Wiresafety.org
This website teachers parents what their children might be using on the internet such as IMs (Instant Messaging). They offer a variety of different topics for parents to research and then gives links to online videos that parents can watch. There is a download-able booklet for parents that talks about online issues. Overall I would give this website a 4.

5. Safekids.com
This website offers parents advice and tools for keeping children safe while using the internet. They have a quiz that parents can take to test their knowledge on internet safety. It teaches parents all about facebook and the privacy settings that can be used. There are guidelines for parents with teenagers and also the site has a contract that parents can use as an agreement between parent and child. I would give this site a 3.


Websites for Teachers:

1. Kidsmart
This website offers teachers a variety of different resources that they can use in the classroom with their students. There are lesson plans, activity ideas, dramas, and tutorials specifically for teachers in order to teach them about internet safety so that they can better inform their students. The tutorials include videos and presentations on specific topics such as helping parents keep their children safe online, and protecting yourself as a professional

2. Internet Safety for Schools
This site offers advice for schools on what type of products to use in order to keep students safe as they use the internet. It gives several links to websites that offer information on web filtering tools. It also has a section that talks about AUPs ans gives samples of them taken from different schools.

3. Thinkuknow
This website offers a variety of different things that teachers can use to both get educated and educate their students on internet use. The site has a page of different resources that can be used such as cyberbullying videos, interactive tutorials, and many more. It offers a questionnaire for teachers to hand out to their students. It also offers links to training course information.

4. TeachersFirst
This website is a useful resource for teachers searching for internet safety material. There is an extensive list of links that have lessons, videos and much more that teachers can use in their curriculum. Beside each link there are icons that tell what information can be found on the site such as standards, lesson plans, printable PDF and more.

5. Netsmartz
This website is very helpful for teachers. They have download-able material for teachers of all grade levels that include: lesson plans, videos, etc. It helps teachers create an effective curriculum dealing with internet safety. The site also has ready made presentations that are tailored to reach a specific audience. They are made for parents or young and older students.
